Austin Farmers and Chefs Collaborate for Inaugural Field Guide Festival
With its diverse and ever-changing culinary scene, Austin is no stranger to culinary celebrations. 2021 will mark the inaugural edition of the city’s newest event: the Field Guide Festival. Set to take place on Rain Lily Farm this October 29th and 30th, the event is a collaborative effort between local farmers and chefs to raise public awareness for the ways in which food is produced.
The festival’s programming is designed to instill guests with new appreciation for local “down home” agriculture, through a variety of culinary and wellness experiences. This year’s lineup will feature an array of local chefs, including Amanda Turner and Ariana Quant of the award-winning sushi house Uchi, Edgar Rico of taco joint Nixta Taqueria, and Phillip Speer of the modern Mexican eatery Comedor.
In a press release announcing the festival’s launch, co-founder Lindsey Sokol elaborated on the importance of blending community and cuisine into one.
“Austin hosts one of the most vibrant food scenes in the country, and Field Guide Festival brings our community a fresh perspective on where their food comes from, through the close collaboration between local chefs and farmers. We invite guests to explore and celebrate the ways their hard work and dedication transform raw materials into nourishing food. This festival has truly been a dream of ours, and we are so excited to bring it to life.”
Additional festival events will include an East Austin 5K run presented by the Comedor Run Club, and all-day tasting event showcasing collaborations between Austin farmers and chefs, live musical performances from Austin artists, a massive farmer’s market where guests can peruse locally-grown produce, and panel discussions from national leaders in the fields of hospitality, agriculture and the culinary arts.
Tickets for the 2021 Field Guide Festival are on sale as of July 13th. Guests can purchase tickets for specific events, or opt for an all-inclusive festival pass.
